Sixteen hundred new buses that meet the EU3 emission level are formally put in use in northern Chinese port city Tianjin.
Xinhua News Agency reports with the support of the local government, Tianjin Bus Group has already invested 1.45 billion yuan, about 200 million US dollars, in a new type of bus that is better for the environment.
The report said that Tianjin will launch a total of 2,500 such new buses before next August to welcome the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
By then, more than 70 percent of Tianjin's buses will accord with the EU3 emission standard.
